About The Eagle Newcastle

The Eagle brings a different energy to Newcastle’s otherwise pop-and-drag-heavy Pink Triangle. The upstairs works as a straightforward gay pub where it is easy to talk, drink and meet locals; downstairs shifts the mood towards a more adult, cruisier men’s-bar experience with the leather, denim and uniform heritage associated with Eagle bars internationally.\n\nThat split makes it useful whether you are simply after a quieter gay pint or specifically looking for Newcastle’s more masculine and fetish-friendly side. It is predominantly male but sits firmly inside the wider LGBTQ+ village rather than operating as an isolated private club. The Eagle is also only a few doors from Number 52 Sauna, which makes this stretch of Scotswood Road the obvious part of the city for men looking for something less mainstream than drag and chart pop.

What to expect

Upstairs feels like a sociable gay pub; downstairs is more adult and cruisy. The overall crowd is predominantly male, with a leather/denim/fetish flavour that is distinct from most Newcastle LGBTQ+ bars.

The last, and only gay bar in Newcastle. Skip Switch, Bank, Rusty’s and Powerhouse - they’re all breeder bars with rainbow flags. Eagle is the only bar a gay man can go and know he won’t be hate crimed.

Hello. I enterred randomly in this gay bar. A bald barman with ginger beard litteraly RAN to me and YELLED on me, pretending to verify that I was over 18 years ( lol 😡 ). I told him that it's not very polite to run towards people for these such requests. He had to ask me politely the things, in fact there was no need to leave aggressively the counter like a monster as he did. His behaviour was absolutely not professional and he was deeply ridiculous. He refused to give me his name for this online comment, I assume that he knew that his attitude was not receivable at all in the customer service field. He said that he was the "manager", I suppose that the bar would go bankrupt if he conducts like everytime, indeed I was about to pay for a glass of juice but it never happened. I am an adult, who was born in 2000 with ID and passport. Basically I had to teach to this incompetent barman that I don't let people intimidate me at all, even if my face doesn't find consideration in your little mind 😡

Cool place. The bouncers were good at keeping us safe. I’d recommend it. I’d caution that it’s quite X rated, especially downstairs!
