About The Fountain Inn

The Fountain Inn is one of Birmingham Gay Village’s most old-school gay pubs, and that is very much part of the appeal. Tucked just off Hurst Street on Wrentham Street, it combines a friendly front bar with a pool lounge, covered garden and a men-only cruise area at the back — then adds letting rooms upstairs if you want to make the walk home exceptionally short. This is less about glossy cocktails and more about regulars, beer, pool, karaoke, weekend DJs and a slightly cruisier gay-men’s crowd. For visitors searching for a gay pub in Birmingham, a cruise bar in Birmingham or LGBTQ+ accommodation right inside the Gay Village, The Fountain is unusually practical. It is also one of those places where an ordinary drink can turn into a considerably less ordinary evening if you wander far enough through the building.

What to expect

A traditional gay pub with several distinct zones. The front is straightforward and social; the rear men-only cruise area gives the venue a more adult edge than most Birmingham Gay Village bars.

I have stayed at the Fountain twice now and am heading back today for my third visit. It's my go to place to stay in Birmingham and I love it. The staff and management are lovely, friendly and helpful. The rooms are great, a good price, and very comfortable with superb bathrooms. The bar, garden, and extra facilities are great.

My husband and I have been staying here for about 5 years. We absolutely love the place. The staff are amazing and so lovely, the rooms are so clean (I’m a controlling clean freak btw), the music is always fabulous and the other customers are so lovely. Anything goes and everything is wonderful. I cannot highly recommend to stay or have a drink.

A great little pub and hotel on the edge of the city centre. You can see how much the owners care for their customers. It’s a room above an old pub so there is noise and you could probably find faults if you wanted to, but for the easy going budget traveller this place is great. Wet room bathroom was a lovely bit of luxury. Bedding was excellent quality, I slept very well both nights. The owners were friendly and helpful, recommended a good local barber etc.
